Ruski (pronounced Roo-ski) is a five-piece band originating from Palmerston North, New Zealand. Our current line-up was formed in late 2007, after we lost our original bassist in Canada and survived a drawn-out search for a lead singer that didn’t sound like a croaking behemoth…

With our brand of ‘Alternative Rock’ layered with catchy pop hooks and dance-worthy rhythms, we present an at-once familiar yet unique rock sound. In a live situation, typical clichés such as ‘energetic’ and ‘raw’ come to mind - however, our aim in a live situation is simply to provide our fans with an involved, entertaining show and some quality tunes to dance to (or mosh to, as the case may be). Having had opening slots for such top Kiwi bands as So So Modern, Odessa and Autozamm, we have a fair bit of experience in the live scene and a solidly growing reputation for putting on a good show.

All our demos are home recorded, using a simple (yet effective) ProTools set up. It is fair to say that - with our habit of recording everything ourselves as soon as possible - that we have a fairly extensive knowledge of the processes involved in organised audio recording.

As well as regularly being asked to play gigs at venues such as Bar MODE, MuBar and Massey University, Radio Control (99.4 – the local B.Net radio station for Palmerston North) is a frequent player of Ruski tracks. The song ‘Feathers to Leather’ was named Radio Control’s ‘Heatseeker’ on 8th September 2008. Furthermore, it charted at Number 6 on the Radio Control Top 11 on Monday the 15th of September and climbed all the way to Number 1 by Monday the 13th of October. Ruski was also awarded the 'Best Musical Group' at the Student City Arts Awards 2008.
